Markides Associates have successfully advised on the proposals for a new student accommodation comprising up to 565 bedrooms, educational floor space, new public Piazza, café, gym and associated facilities on land within Hanger Lane Gyratory, Ealing.
The scheme is the product of nearly 10 years of negotiations with officers, stakeholders, local people and statutory bodies to adequately address, design, mass, structures, transport and a host of other major constraints.
Access to the site, from the inside of one of the busiest and most complex gyratories in London, required extensive discussion with TfL and LB Ealing officers to reach agreement on transport matters. The pedestrian and cycle environment within the gyratory will be significantly improved whilst also enhancing the safety and amenity of people crossing and using the site and accessing the underground stations via the subway network. Hard and soft landscaping will be used to protect the ground floor area from the surrounding roads.
A key part of the proposals was also in meeting with London Underground and HS2 to confirm that the development will have no impact on their current or future plans.
